Jen Shah was recently indicted for her alleged role in a telemarketing scheme while filming season 2 of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City.
Shah and her assistant are accused of defrauding hundreds of people, many over the age of 55, by selling lead lists for fictitious businesses.
“Jen is humiliated that all of this is happening and that it will be shown on Bravo”, says a source. The source also said that “Shah hasn’t been talking to her friends or castmates since the arrest”. The Bravo star could face up to 50 years in prison if convicted.
After pleading guilty to the fraud charges, the judge in the case banned the reality star from excessive drinking and drug use. He specifically said “any narcotics or controlled substances” She also must continue mental health treatment at a specific facility.
Shah is not allowed to use credit cards or to apply for credit. She can’t move and she had to surrender her passport.
As part of the agreement of her $1 million bonds, Shah must continue treatment at the Lion Rock facility, which provides online counseling for substance abuse.
The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City will premier on Bravo. Shah’s husband, Sharrieff, is apparently not involved. He is a Utah football coach and a Muslim. Shah made waves when she converted from Mormonism to Islam after meeting him. It continues to be a big part of her life on the show. Her husband’s busy life on the road has been hard for Jen during this tough time.
She has said she became depressed and “needed anxiety and depression medicine.”
The show was criticized at one point because although she was screaming drunk, she was allowed to continue drinking more and more. The make-up was running and it was called “embarrassing”.
